Lanai Doors™ Aluminum Hurricane-certified Folding Door & Window Systems : Thresholds

One of the more important decisions for our customers is selecting the threshold that works best for them. There are two important factors that go into selecting your threshold: the appearance and the functionality. A notched or seamless transition can give your bi-folding doors a desired look & feel. Or a specific functionality may be necessary for your system, such as ADA accessibility or superior weather-tightness. Each threshold has different features that will be discussed in more detail below (see also the summary table below or visit our Architect's page for pdf/CAD files of our thresholds).

Three Thresholds

Lanai Doors™ qualified three thresholds (Standard, Lowrise & Flush Lowrise) for their bi-folding hurricane door and window systems.

Standard Threshold
Lanai's standard raised threshold obtained higher individual structural and cycling results. Structurally, the standard threshold achieved a DP-80 negative (177 mph winds) and DP-100 positive (198 mph winds), and successfully cycled at DP-90 (188 mph winds) for both OUTswing and INswing configurations. Installation of the standard threshold can be carried out directly on a level sub-floor or onto a notched sub-floor. With a notched sub-floor, the interior and exterior finished floors are offset but can be flush to the threshold. Lanai's outswing standard threshold is tested to DP-55 for water; however, all three thresholds are considered water tight when there is an overhang which is as wide as it is tall off the ground.

Lowrise Threshold
For industrial / commercial applications Lanai Doors offers a Lowrise threshold, which is ADA compliant and also earned a DP-70 rating (165 mph winds, +/- and cycled). The 5" wide Lowrise threshold is installed on top of your finished floor. This works well for restaurants, storefront applications or homes that are unable to utilize the Flush Lowrise threshold.

Flush Lowrise Threshold
When the overhang is sufficient or water-tightness is not an issue, Lanai's DP-70 rated (165 mph, +/- and cycled) Flush Lowrise threshold offers a smooth transition from outside to inside. The 2 3/4" wide threshold mounts into the flooring, allowing for a seamless transition between the interior and exterior finished floors.

All three thresholds come in Class I bronze or clear anodized finishes. See the different Threshold Drawings for details.
